Broad Spectrum Vs. Full Spectrum CBD

If you’ve browsed around our site a bit and gotten familiar with Danu’s products, you’ve likely noticed that all of our products use broad spectrum CBD. But what the heck does that mean? And how does it compare to full spectrum CBD or even CBD isolate?Fear not! We’re going to break things down here for you. And thankfully, it’s really not that confusing. Let’s start from the top, with full spectrum CBD.

What Is Full-Spectrum CBD?

Full spectrum CBD contains cannabinoids other than cannabidiol (CBD). This includes lesser-known cannabinoids like CBG, CBC, CBN, and others, but also the most well-known cannabinoid of them all — THC.THC is the psychoactive compound that gives marijuana its signature high. Over time, savvy marijuana farmers have figured out how to harvest certain strains to create versions that are stronger or more mellow than others. This typically comes from the marijuana cannabis plant, while CBD is most often extracted from hemp plants. While a certain strain of marijuana may be cultivated for its strength, hemp plants are farmed for just the opposite reason. Hemp plants generally have little to no THC. This means hemp will not get you high. When CBD is first harvested from the plant, the CBD oil is considered full-spectrum, because it contains THC and all of the other naturally-occurring compounds in the plant, including terpenes, proteins, phytocannabinoids, essential vitamins, fatty acids, and more. This is why full-spectrum CBD oil is sometimes referred to as “whole-plant” oil, because you get everything that comes from the hemp plant. The problem with full spectrum CBD for some users is the presence of THC. Some users are wary of THC, even if a product claims to only have trace amounts. Federal law requires that CBD products be extracted from hemp plants instead of marijuana. By definition, hemp plants contain less than 0.3 percent THC. This is just a trace amount of THC and should not trigger a drug test, but some users are still wary of CBD products that contain THC. This may be because some product labels have inaccurate dosage claims and the overall Wild West attitude in the industry (not us, mind you, we play by the rules). But no matter the circumstances, many turn to broad spectrum CBD products for this very reason.

Broad Spectrum CBD

The only difference between broad spectrum CBD and full spectrum CBD is the THC content. Full-spectrum CBD has it, while broad-spectrum CBD does not. Broad spectrum CBD still contains all of the other goodness of the hemp plant, including the other cannabinoids, terpenes, etc. But the THC is stripped out in the lab, giving users a product they can use without fear, that will still produce the same benefits they enjoy in a full spectrum product.

CBD Isolate

While full spectrum CBD and broad spectrum CBD contain plenty of other substances in the hemp plant that combine together to increase the benefits users enjoy, a process known as the “entourage effect.” As the name suggests, CBD isolate cannot do this, because these products have isolated only the raw CBD oil. It is pure, isolated CBD.CBD isolate is incredibly difficult to make because of all the extra steps involved to remove the other compounds in the plant, making it more expensive as well as less effective, overall. However, many users still report feeling benefits from CBD isolate.

Summary

For many, broad spectrum CBD offers the best option when it comes to CBD products. We certainly think so, which is why all of our products are zero THC, broad spectrum, premium-quality, CBD from US-grown hemp. We know that’s a mouthful, but it’s all important and is what sets Danu Apothecary apart from the competition. Give our CBD tinctures or other products a try today and we’re sure you’ll agree, but if you don’t taste and feel the difference, let us know!
